Brent Cross district of north London is best known for shopping centre and proposed development of Brent Cross Cricklewood. It was originally named as crossroads.
Brief History of Brent Cross
Earlier Brent Cross was called Renters Farm. In late 19th century sewage works was constructed and between 1935 to 1970 Greyhound Stadium was stood. Brent Cross Shopping Centre was built in 1976.
Shopping Centre in Brent Cross
Brent Cross Shopping Centre is UK's first stand alone shopping centre. Initially built in a shape of dumbbell, in 1995 the mall was renovated and expanded. Other shopping malls in recent days have been developed such as MetroCentre, Lakeside, Westfield London and Bluewater, which are bigger than Brent Cross Shopping mall. Presently there are free parking spaces of 8000 cars.
Brent Cross Cricklewood development
A new planned town is being worked out in the Cricklewood at a cost of about £4.5 billion. It will have 7,500 homes, offices, parks, extension of shopping centre, transport improvements and many more.
Transport System in Brent Cross
There are two underground rail stations - Hendon Central and Brent Cross. Thirteen bus routes cross the district and the bus station near to shopping centre is open 24 hours. New rail station is proposed on Thameslink line. Also, new bridges are being planned on A406 North Circular. The bus station is to be relocated closer to A406 North Circular.
