AI Deployed Ahead of Brazilian, Indian Elections to Overcome Manipulation: Zuckerberg

22 March 2018 -

The upcoming elections in Brazil and India should be fair, if believed to Facebook CEO Marck Zuckerberg.

In his recent interview Zuckerberg said Facebook is using artificial intelligence (AI) tools to enhance security features and ensure the elections are not manipulated as it was during the Donald Trump's presidential campaign in 2016.

Facebook first deployed AI tools in 2017 during the French elections.

In an interview with The New York Times the CEO added AI was built after the US elections in 2016 when more than 30,000 fake accounts were discovered and those were intended to manipulate elections.

Zuckerberg further added that Facebook was able to disable the accounts and prevented the same happening in France.

During the special election in Alabama in 2017 Facebook deployed some new AI tools to identify false news and fake accounts. Several accounts linked to Macedonia were disabled as those were trying to spread false news.

Zuckerberg said they are now more focused on the upcoming Brazilian and Indian elections and well prepared to the elections in the US too in 2018.

He added, "There's a big election in Brazil. There are big elections around the world, and you can bet that we are really committed to doing everything that we need to, to make sure that the integrity of those elections on Facebook is secured."
