The coastal towns of Kenya and Tanzania, Malindi and Bagamoyo, will soon be connected. The nations have planned to build a 412km road to ease movement along the coastlines.
Earlier this month Kenya started recruiting contractors to assess the environment impact and undertake feasibility studies in making a road between Malindi and Bagamoyo.
Meanwhile, Tanzania has already wrapped up with some of such similar critical studies.
The project is expected to be completed in 36 months, but was supposed to start early last year. It has been delayed since then.
The project is estimated to cost about Sh75 billion. The final studies to reveal the exact cost.
African Development Bank (AfDB) said Kenya has been outpaced by Tanzania in the initial planning part and this mean commencement could be delayed further.
Director General of East Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office at AfDB Gabriel Negatu said the project is expected to start later this year or early 2019.
AfDB has signed an agreement with Diamond Trust Bank to loan it an amount of Sh75 billion from pan-African development finance institution.
70 percent of the cost is to be financed by AfDB and the remaining by the two countries, paying for construction works on their sides.
