Tanzania Arrests Two Accused Protesting Against President Magufuli

Two arrests have been made by police in Tanzanian capital Dodoma on Wednesday in response to the upcoming protests against President John Magufuli for his increasing authoritarianism.


A message by an opposition activist on social media has widely spread for nationwide protests on April 26 against the government.

Police chief from the central Dodoma region, Gilles Muroto, confirmed the two arrests addressing to press the same day saying a driver and a farmer are taken into custody for urging fellow citizens to protests against the president.

Muroto added, "We have already warned that will not accept people testing government. We have arrested these two, let it serve as a lesson to others."




Earlier this month the presisent too had warned people to avoid taking part in such protests against the government or else face harsh consequences.

Magufuli added that some people in the country have failed to engage in real politics and so are trying to end up with street protests, but they will come to know who the presient is.

Tanzanian Interior Minister Mwigulu Nchemba too had earlier vowed to arrest even those who would be protesting from home.

The 58-year-old president too office in 2015 and since then has taken tough steps in fighting against corruption in the country. He has earned criticism from oppositions for his authoritarian leadership.
