Vacation Beachwear for Women

Heading to a hot spot for a holiday? Have these vacation beachwear basics packed for the trip so a traveler can have all her bases covered from head to toe.

Summer Hats

Pack a summer hat or two to protect against the sun. Going to hotter climates can put a person at risk for burning, and in places one might not think, like along the scalp line where the hair is parted. Wearing a hat is the best way to protect the head and face from the sun’s rays. Choose from a baseball cap to a stylish big sun hat, depending on one’s style. If packing space is limited, some sun hats are made specifically for travelling and are flexible enough to fold up nicely into a suitcase. Packing a bandana can also be handy as it can be used to cover one’s head and wipe away sweat.

Bathing Suits Custom

Make sure to research how conservative the place is one is visiting. Some towns are used to a lot of tourists and may be accepting of “skimpy” bathing suits, at least on the beach. Other towns, even in the same country, may see tiny bikinis as something shocking for a woman to wear out in public – no matter if it is the water -- and such a woman could get a lot of unwanted attention. For conservative destinations, find out what the bathing suit customs are. Ask or go see what local women wear to the beach. They may go in dark-colored shorts in T-shirts or a tourist may try buying the local garb for going in the water – perhaps it means buying a head-to-toe covering sari.

Bathing Suit Cover Up

Make sure to have a bathing suit cover up. This can help protect against burns and it can also be seen as respectful in certain countries for a person to be covered up once out of the water. In some cases, not only should the bathing suit cover up cover everything well, a skirt or pants may also be needed for the walk to and from the beach to follow local customs.

Beach Footwear

It seems like a great idea to run barefoot on the beach, but it takes just one piece of volcanic rock or even a small shell sticking out of the sand for a traveler to cut her foot. The cut can get infected or if it is bad enough it could require stitches that will keep a tourist from the waters for the rest of her trip. For enjoying the sea, bring along flipflops, water shoes or cheap sandals. It’s also good to bring along a good pair of walking shoes or boots if there are plans to do any hiking on local trails or just a lot of walking in the city center.

Beach Bag

It’s handy to have a beach bag to store a towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, water and bathing suit cover up clothes. Make sure to leave money, credit cards and other important security items at the hotel if a visit to the beach means spending most of the time in the water.

Good vacation beachwear to pack includes a hat, flipflops, bathing suit that meets local customs, bathing suit cover up and a beach bag to carry all one’s gear in.
