New York City | 7 April 2018:
One person has lost life and four others have been injured in central Manhattan (New York) after fire broke on the 50th floor of Trump Tower apartment.
Accoding New York Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro the apartment was fully on fire at around 5:30 p.m. local time on Saturday and rest of the building had good amount of smoke.
United States President Donald Trump or his family members were not in the Fifth Avenue Skyscraper, which is the calling card of his real estate business.
Trump's residence was inspected by firefighters with the Secret Service, added Nigro.
The president was in Washington and tweeted construction of the structure helped confine the fire.
About the tower Nigro mentioned, "It's a well-built building... The building sure stood up quite well."
Trump Tower construction was completed in 1983 and then no fire sprinklers were required in New York City's skyscrapers.
In the year 1999 NYC passed a law of fire sprinklers in new residential highrises. Some fire-safety advocates urged the older apartments to be retrofitted with such fire sprinklers. However, the then-mayor Rudy Giuliani said things would be too expensive for the buildings.
The man, who was pronounced dead after reaching hospital, was a 67-year-old Todd Brassner. He was an art dealer and purchased an apartment on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in 1996.
A 76-year-old resident on the 36th floor said it was very terrifying experience when she saw the footage on television and recollected the 9/11 incidence after looking everything was falling out of the window.
Lalitha Masson added she called her oldest son and said goodbye.
She lives with her husband Narinder Masson, 79, who is suffering from Parkinson's disease.
