Best Times to Visit Morocco for Festivals

There are several must-see festivals in Morocco, from art and music to flower shows. Times of the year vary but many of them are held in the summer months June, July and August. An online search will reveal exact dates each year. Here are some festivals to keep in mind:

Fez Festival of World Sacred Music: This is one of the most popular festivals in Morocco, with participants arriving from all over the world. Styles of music range from Sufi chants, Pakistani qwwali chants, ancient gawlior chants and more. Usually held mid to late June.


Marrakesh Popular Arts Festival: Said to be one of the most popular festival among Moroccans, this festival is set against the wonderful backdrop of the 16th century El Badi palace. Folk performances can be enjoyed, such as those by berber musicians of the High Atlas mountains, Andalus-inspired musicals of the north and a chance to hear the mysterious music of the Gnaouas. Usually around 4 days long, this festival takes place mid July of each year.

Cherry Festival: Held each year around mid-June, this festival celebrates the cherry harvest in Sefrou, Fez. Expect a week long festivities, complete with music, dance and markets. Sporting competitions, torchlight processions, fair grounds and the crowning of the cherry queen are among some of the events held during this time.

Camel Festival: Located in Goulimime, this festival celebrates the camel and also offers onlookers the chance to see ancient dances and drummers. The best time to visit Morocco to see this festival is July of each year.
