Mediterana, Europe's Biggest Luxury Health Spa

Mediterana's "Tor zur Sonne (Gate to the Sun) " offers an escape from Germany's long gray winters into a warmer, Middle Eastern climate. The luxury spa reopened in September 2009 after an extensive remodel. The result is simply spectacular. Inspired by the stories of 1001 Nights and the style of ornate Indian palaces a wonderland of indoor and outdoor pools, countless saunas and rest areas await visitors. The spa is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has a gourmet restaurant. Mediterana received the prestigious "World Sauna Award" in Europe's Spa and Sauna Guide, the highest rating for luxury spas.

Luxury Wellness Center With Artifacts from India and Morocco

1000 sq. m. of refurbished teak flooring, 600 sq.m of wall mosaics, more than 400 lanterns, 116 columns and 60 original gates were imported from Morocco and India for the remodel. Hand painted tiles from Spain and handmade rugs from Morocco add a distinctive touch to showers and luxurious quiet rooms. Mediterana wellness center extends over 4.5 acres (18.000 square meters). Sauna enthusiasts can explore a myriad of soothing colors, scents and temperatures in 13 indoor- and outdoor saunas.

Sauna Experiences From Around the World

The Himalaya sauna is a golden rose underground cave lined with healing salt crystal. In the "Edelsteinsauna" (Edelstein = precious stone) heat, light, aroma and sound therapy combine with the powerful effects of precious stones to benefit the whole body and the mind. Dried sage and eucalyptus leaves burn in a special open fireplace and pervade the Bain Arabisances sauna (70 °C). Other saunas include a stone sauna (90 °C), a Catalan Herbal Steam Bath, a sweat lodge from Andalusia (45 °C) and a Turkish Hamam. The sauna section is an all-nude area. Walking from one sauna to the next guests carry their towels or robes.

New Highlights at Mediterana Spa and Wellness Center

"House of Meditation" with a huge Buddha statue and an ambitious sound system is one of the newest attractions at Mediterana. Experimental sound patterns, original compositions by an Austrian artist, support meditative states of body and mind. Trained professionals guide meditation and breathing exercises. "House of the Elements" honors the German tradition of Sebastian Kneipp, Bavarian priest, and founder of hydrotherapy, a system of hot and cold water applications for healing purposes. The Indian "Rajasthani House" offers ayurvedic treatments according to the concept of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
