Tips How to Throw a Baby Shower

Having a baby is one of the biggest moments in a woman's life and a baby shower is a wonderful way to celebrate. For the friend or family member throwing the shower, party planning can be very stressful. With a theme in mind, a few games to play and a simple menu, a baby shower can be a stress-free, enjoyable event.

Things to Consider When Throwing a Baby Shower

There are many things to consider when throwing a baby shower, not least of which are the wishes of the mom-to-be. The party should represent her and her likes and dislikes. Here are some other things to consider when throwing a baby shower.

-Theme: A theme is a great way to organize the shower. Theme ideas include baby blue or baby pink if the gender of the baby is known, clowns, animal safari/zoo, black and white, tea party, beach theme, or anything that represents Mom.
-Menu: The menu can follow the theme or stand out on its own. Opt for a light, easy menu that can easily be eaten on laps. Finger foods such as crudites and dips, finger sandwiches, fruit platters, cheese trays, and other bite size bits are great options for an elegant buffet. .
-Guest list: Have the mom-to-be help with the guest list so no one is missed. If the shower is a surprise, consider asking the dad-to-be to help out in this area.
-Invitations: Send out invitations well in advance to ensure that all guests have fair warning for saving the date.
-Gifts: If the mom-to-be is registered somewhere for gifts, be sure that all guests are aware of the registry and how to access the wish list.
-Cake!: Consider individual cupcakes or a cake that represents the theme of the shower.

Baby Shower Games

A baby shower has to have games! Here are some fun ideas to keep the guests entertained.

-Clothespin game: As guests arrive give each of them a clothespin to clip onto their clothing somewhere. Explain to them that if they hear another guest use the word "baby" at any time during the shower they can steal that person's clothespin(s). At the end of the shower, whoever has the most clothespins wins a prize!
0Taste test: Split the group into two equal teams. Have one person on each team wear a blindfold, she is the first taste tester. Once the first taste tester is blindfolded, have her teammates feed her from a jar of baby food. The taste tester must correctly identify the baby food to get a point. Each person on the team should have a chance to be taste tester. The team with the most points at the end wins.
0Baby things memory game: Split the group into two teams. Bring out a tray with 10 to 20 baby items on it (pacifier, diaper pin, baby spoon, etc). Give the teams 1 minute to study the tray. Take the tray away and have the teams write down everything they can remember being on the tray. The team with the most things remembered wins.
-Celebrity baby names: Split the group into two teams. Give each group some sort of horn or noisemaker to use to ring in with a right answer. One by one, call out a celebrity baby name. Whoever rings in first must identify the baby's celebrity parents. If the person can identify one parent she gets one point, two parents means she gets two points.

Gift Ideas for Baby Showers

If a mom-to-be has decided to register for her gifts, this makes gift giving easy for shower guests. As the host/hostess of the shower, it is important to make sure that all guests know where she is registered and how to access the wish list.
