All main resorts on the coast and inland have five star hotels, including some truly prestigious venues. For a few however, the rating may appear over generous so it’s best to adopt a flexible approach and remember this is not London or New York. Room standards can vary but fine cuisine, service and hospitality are the norm in Morocco luxury hotels.
Morocco Luxury Hotel, Casablanca Royal Mansour Meridien
The Royal Mansour Meridien is a peaceful oasis at the heart of Morocco’s largest city. This elegant venue blends modern comfort with traditional architecture and furnishings in warm hues of red and gold. Three restaurants offer a choice of Mediterranean, Moroccan or international cuisine. Massage, sauna and Turkish bath are available in the fitness centre.
Luxury Hotel on the Coast, Atlas Essaouira and Spa
On the main road facing the ocean and close to the old town, this 156 room hotel has a private beach, pool with swim up bar and health club and spa with massage and sauna. The Atlas Essaouira and Spa is in sleek contemporary style and all rooms have satellite TV and internet access. A gift shop, two bars and four restaurants serving international cuisine complete the picture.
Marrakech Kenzi Farah
The Marrakech Kenzi Farah is located in three hectares of gardens within walking distance of the town centre. Amenities include a large pool, tennis courts and spa with treatments ranging from clay or henna masks to massage and hammam. Restaurants serve Moroccan, Italian and international cuisine. Rooms are reasonably comfortable with those in the new wing and suites offering more up standard accommodation.
Traditional Moroccan Luxury in Fes, Riad Myra
The Riad Myra in Fes is a lovely guesthouse with just 13 rooms, including 10 suites, in a secluded location close the medina. Rooms have individual styles and bathrooms tiled with blue zelliges from Fes. The most prestigious suite is Le Vizir. The traditional Moorish architecture is complimented by sumptuous furnishings and chiselled cedar wood furniture. Guests’ facilities include a library, Moroccan lounge, panoramic terrace, fine cuisine and hammam.
Five Star in Morocco, Ouarzazate Berbere Palace
The Ouarzazate Berbere Palace claims to be the best hotel in southern Morocco and a convenient base for excursions into the desert. Rooms are spacious and the grounds fragrant with jasmine and roses. French, Moroccan, Italian and international cuisines are on offer and there’s a pool, piano bar and Berber tent. Hammam, sauna and massage round up the Ouarzazate experience.
