Beautiful British Columbia is known the world over as a top notch winter vacation destination. From family resorts to luxury ski vacations, there is a destination for everyone. Whistler/Blackcomb has the reputation of being the premier ski resort and of course will host many events of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. But for tourists wanting to explore more of the province, a number of top quality ski resorts are available. Some are within driving distance of Vancouver or while others are a short flight or ferry ride away.
Vancouver Island Ski Resort
Mount Washington boasts excellent alpine skiing, offers world class cross country skiing and has a natural luge track. There are 60 runs to choose from, varying in difficulty.
Olympians will be using Mount Washington as a warm up venue before the 2010 Games. Brent Curtain, director of public relations at the mountain, told the Georgia Straight, November 5, 2009, that 400 Olympic and Paralympic athletes are expected, but Curtain said "the mountain is large enough that it will barely make a dent on public access."
Mount Washington is situated about 1 hour north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. There are ferries regularly throughout the day from the mainland to Vancouver Island. Mount Washington plans to open the 2009/2010 season on December 9, 2009.
Revelstoke Newest Ski Resort Location in BC
Best known for heliskiing and snowcat skiers, Revelstoke's Mount Mackenzie is now home to an exciting ski resort development. The $1 billion resort will be completed over 15 years, and is set to open a new Resort Village in December '09. The mountain receives 12-18 metres of snowfall annually and boasts the longest vertical descent in North America.
There are a total of 52 runs, most being intermediate and advanced level. The mountain will open December 5, 2009 through to April 2010.

President of Tourism Sun Peaks, Christopher Nicolson said, "This positions Sun Peaks on the international stage as a resort that can stand up with the best ski destinations in the world."
Sun Peaks has a total of 122 alpine runs and over 40kms of cross country trails. Easily accessible by car from Vancouver or by air, Sun Peaks is second only to Whistler as the largest all season destination.
Canada's Largest Totally Ski In-Ski Out Resort Village
